Blake began getting interested in computers from a very early age and would play games such as SimCity, which would help him develop his ideas about computers and video games in general. He also discovered a version of Netscape when it was in its open source and started contributing software to this platform. After having problems with the platform that he was using, Blake began designing his own and started working for America online, which had purchased Netscape only recently. Ross then went on to inrole at the Stanford university after working as an intern at the Netscape communications corporation. It was whilst working for Netscape that Ross quickly began feeling unsatisfied with the web browsers that were available at the time and it was then that he began thinking about ways in which to create the best web browser possible.
Ross and his partner Hyatt began thinking about a computer browser that would be simple but effective and would also have the ability of gaining a wide amount of attention. The Mozilla Firefox project was released as open source and it began to gain an amount of momentum after this released. Firefox was released to the public in 2004 and Ross was only 19 at the time. However, the web browser quickly gained a lot of attention and received over 100 million downloads in the year that it was released. It is 2016 and the battle for the best web browser has taken on a new level, with two of the most popular platforms (Mozilla Firefox and Safari) going head to head in the search for the most efficient tool for web surfing. There are many excellent mac web browsers available, and most people prefer installing several to allow them to switch among them as desired. Regardless of this, many people find themselves relying primarily on a single browser for their online activities.
Both Mozilla Firefox and Safari are superb all round options, and they are very efficient as a default
browser. With each release, their developers strive to improve these tools and keep them on the forefront of new web expectations, polish user interfaces, enhance privacy, fix security holes, and improve performance. Where safari excels

Text area controls in Safari are resizable – simply adjust the handle at the lower right corner in the field.

Viewing a PDF

Full text history searches
Through the direction: History > Show top sites, you can be able to see the top sites view in Safari, with a field at the lower right corner allowing you to search for words that showed up on web pages you recently viewed – whether the pages are open or not. Firefox does not have this ability, although the free Google Desktop allows for a roughly similar capability.
Displaying less popular graphics Safari allows you to view graphics in JPEG 200 or TIIFF formats, both of which are not recognized by Firefox. In Mozilla, you will have to download the file first, and then open it in a separate compatible program, such as Preview.

This is a free extension that incorporates a long list of user configurable features in the browser, for

Per domain filtering
While safari does permit you to block cookies, pop-up windows, and other features associated with your privacy, they do so as an all or nothing option. Firefox, on the other hand, gives you control over several privacy settings with each domain, allowing a much more diverse browsing experience.
Displaying mathematical equations
Gecko-based browsers (such as Firefox) allow you to view inline mathematical equations developed using MathML standard (of W3C), while WebKit-based browsers such as Safari can only display linear strings of characters.
Tests rendering random websites (firefox vs safari)
A recent test involving Google Maps and Gmail alone revealed that Safari was slower than Firefox on windows. However, two websites are not enough to represent the overall user experience. This problem was fixed by choosing the top 16 English language websites, based on Alexa traffic ratings. As a result, various site designs were tested, from sophisticated DHTML designs to simple static pages. The websites included in the test were:

These websites were hosted on a local web server, and then both the cached and initial measurements were taken. It was quickly discovered that there was no general winner when it came to the fastest browser. One browser would perform immaculately on one site, while another would take precedence on a different website.
An average of the load times was taken to give a general picture of performance across various websites. Safari was found to be the fastest.
Bottom line
The length to which Apple’s claims of being the fastest web browser depends on whether you’d like to hold them to the general notion that there is a significant performance edge for Safari, or to the precise numbers. While Safari’s superior performance was confirmed when testing initial webpage load time, the results were inconclusive when it came to loading webpages from cache. The exact browser performance you would experience still depends on the specific website you are visiting.

Thunderbird can be configured to work seamlessly with Google's Gmail service. Messages are synchronized between your local version of Thunderbird and the web-based Gmail.

To configure Thunderbird to work with Gmail, first enable IMAP on your Gmail account. See Gmail's instructions for help. (IMAP is enabled on new Gmail accounts by default.)
Double check that 'Access for less secure apps' is enabled. See Google's article on 'less secure apps' for help.
Next, select File > New > Existing Mail Account.... The 'Mail Account Setup' dialog is displayed. After you provide your account information (real name, email address and password), Thunderbird will automatically configure your Gmail connection. Click , sign in with your Google account if prompted and that's all! Thunderbird will download your existing messages and your Gmail will be ready to use.

Archiving messages
In order to be consistent with Gmail's behavior, Thunderbird archives your message in the 'All Mail' folder, and not in an 'Archive' folder as it does for other accounts (as described in the Archived Messages article).
Note that the button is disabled for Gmail accounts, as it is not necessary to define the archive granularity with Gmail.
Subscribing to folders and synchronizing messages
Understanding Gmail labels and Thunderbird folders
Gmail uses a special implementation of IMAP. In this implementation, Gmail labels become Thunderbird folders. When you apply a label to a message in Gmail, Thunderbird creates a folder with the same name as the label and stores the message in that folder. Similarly, if you move a message to a folder in Thunderbird, Gmail will create a label with the folder name and assign it to the message.
In the example shown below, the folders at the same level as the '[Gmail]' folder ('g+', 'Personal', 'Receipts', 'Travel' and 'Work') correspond to Gmail labels.
There is also a set of special sub-folders for the '[Gmail]' folder:
- All Mail: contains all of the messages in your Gmail account, including sent and archived messages. Any messages that you see in the inbox will also appear in the [Gmail]/All Mail folder.
- Drafts: contains draft messages.
- Sent Mail: contains sent messages.
- Spam: contains messages that were marked as spam (either by Gmail or Thunderbird).
- Starred: contains messages that were starred (either by Gmail or Thunderbird).
- Trash: contains deleted messages.
- Important: contains messages that Gmail has flagged as 'important'. (See Priority Inbox overview for more details about this Gmail feature.)
Note that a message can have multiple labels (for instance, 'Personal', 'Travel', 'All Mail' and 'Starred'). In this case, a single copy of this message will be downloaded, but it will be displayed in all the corresponding Thunderbird folders.
Subscribing to or unsubscribing from folders (labels)
You can configure which Gmail folders you want to display in Thunderbird. By default all Gmail folders are displayed, as described above. To configure folder display, right-click on the account name and select Subscribe.
Uncheck any folders that you don't want to display in Thunderbird. Messages will still be downloaded and available through the 'All Mail' folder. They will also be included in search results. However, the Gmail label (Thunderbird folder) will not be displayed.
Synchronizing folders (labels)
If you want to see all your Gmail labels and messages in Thunderbird but prefer to avoid all the messages being downloaded to your system, you may want to tweak the synchronization settings. This allows you to define which folder should be synchronized. If you don't synchronize a folder, the message header will still be displayed in Thunderbird, but the message content will only be downloaded when you click on the message header.
To change how messages are downloaded, set synchronization options for the account and for individual folders. (Tools > Account Settings...Edit > Account Settings...) See IMAP Synchronization for more information.
- If you want to sync your contacts between Thunderbird and Gmail, you should try either the Google Contacts or gContactSync add-ons.

- Flat Folder Tree is useful to show all the sub-folders of the [Gmail] IMAP's folder at the same level than your other folders.
